Psst, information tips on the rise from public to FBI

…….”terrorist attacks elsewhere, such as the London subway bombing, also generate more tips, says Martin Ficke, a retired special-agent-in-charge for Homeland Security's Immigration and Customs Enforcement in New York City.

The 9/11 Commission found that intelligence and law enforcement agencies did not connect the dots that would have linked the terrorists to one another and to the hijacking plot, Ficke says.

"The government wants that little piece of information. When in doubt, call it in," he says. "It may be the one piece of the puzzle that the investigator needs……"

Ficke, Director of Operations, lectured at a Senior Manager Course in National Security, at the Elliott School of International Affairs, George Washington University, Washington, DC. The lecture concerning "The Underground Economy and Immigration in New York" was presented to senior level Department of Defense officials. The presentation included an overview of ICE/Department of Homeland Security operations in NYC with particular attention to national security, criminal and immigration compliance issues.

Port Security Conference

On June 7, 2007, Martin D. Ficke, Director of Investigations for SES Resources International LLC, made a presentation at the 38th Annual Airport and Seaport International Port Security (IAASP) Conference in Washington, DC. The presentation concerning "Crime and Prevention" detailed the components of internal conspiracies that continue to plague U.S. airports and seaports. These conspiracies involve air and seaport employees that utilize their access and knowledge to circumvent federal government inspection procedures and requirements. Internal conspiracies often utilized to smuggle narcotics into the U.S., are even more of a concern in the post 9-11 environment.
